The Bridge Between Here and There

The Going Over

How do I make you understand?

Where here is now, where yesterday’s been, and tomorrow takes us over.

Here you are with me now, yesterday is distant and we wonder – what does the future intend?

Where is the bridge of today that goes on forever?

Where is the bridge of going over?

Bridges go over water, rocks, and other paths; bridges tie one place to another. Bridges are where memories and the future unfold.

Where is the bridge that makes this easy? When the sun is low and the tide has receded?

How do I help you go?

Where the bridge over water flows and seasons change while walking, skipping, and running over.

Here we can try together, hand-n-hand crossing the bridge that needs going over.

As you stand here on the bridge trying to decide, know that I remain at your side.

We are not promised tomorrow and for loved ones who left, the waiting is over.

Going over the bridge is how you really see there in heaven.

All of the yesterdays and tomorrows will shine. He will greet you there on the other side.

But if you stay on the bridge you’ll remain uncertain, time does not stop here or now in the middle.

Life really is lived there on the other side of the bridge, but only until you let go of here.

So go and begin the going over, crossing the bridge from here to there.

Know someday, my love, I’ll be going over the bridge myself to meet you in heaven.

Yes, my love, I’ll be there, after I’ve finished the going over.

WHAT I WANT MY BOYS TO KNOW

Most of what I want you to know are things I have told you before:

I prayed for you before you were ever conceived.

I prayed for you while the Lord was forming you.

I prayed for you as you were little and growing up.

I prayed on the hard days, the easy days, and for the days yet to come.

I would look at you when you were sleeping, smile and pray for you.

I would look at you while you were busy with other things, wonder and hope, and pray for you.

I would look at you as you became a young man and pray the Lord would keep you safe.

I would look at you as we all go our own ways and pray you keep returning to the Lord each day.

I prayed for the Lord to bring you someone special, to love you as much as I do.

I prayed for the jobs, the places, and friends you’ll meet to remind you that the Lord has you in his hand.

I prayed for the hard, lonely, and frustrating times where waiting is long, and patience is short.

I prayed for you every morning and night, whenever thoughts of you bubbled up in my heart.

What I want you to know is that there’s no better way than to commit to the Lord what he so graciously granted.  Life with you, time with you, my beloveds.  You are all precious to me and have given me an uplifted soul.

What I want for you is to be good to each other, to love one another, and be for each other.

What I want for you is to do and be better than your dad and I, reach and try more, do all that you dream.

What I want you to know is we made mistakes, but so will you.  Remember to forgive, forget, and do whatever it takes to keep love, peace, and kindness in reach in all your relationships you keep.

What I want you to know is that I’ll never stop praying and loving you.

You will someday be leaders, husbands, and fathers yourselves, and one day you’ll be telling your kids what you want them to know.

Love,

Forever Your Mom and Dad

LOVE

Love lingers, love cherishes each moment; love covers and completes us.

Love is not to be undone.

Love from the Father quells the storm, germinates and grows.

It reaches depths and heights unknown.

His love is abiding, unceasing, and undeserved.

He is love itself.

The Father loves you.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him, will not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

POEMS by Amy Weiss (Steve’s Great-Grandmother)

JUNE
Oh June, you are so lovely with your soft, warm air.
Bringing fragrance of your roses blooming everywhere.
Your wildflowers in profusion, down in the shady lane.
Each with their chalice, hold drops of cool rain.
Your fields of sweet clover,
Your promise of ripe grain,
Your rippling brooks, your woods, and hills,
Your birds with music fills the air until,
June retreats to another year.

BLESS US LORD
Bless us Lord, oh this I pray,
As we journey on our way.
Make the road on which we trod,
Ever peaceful, free from prod.

Let your light shine all the way,
As we journey day by day.
Keep us pure and free from sin,
With hearts pure, love dwells within.
Lead us Lord, oh this I pray,

In your footsteps day by day.
So that we may never stray.
Bless us all, that we may be,
Fit oh Lord to walk with thee.

WIDE WORLD
Oh wide wonderful incomprehensible world, with your mysteries yet to unfold.
The wonderful waters upon you in which you are revealed.
The moon serene in glory, cradled in the blue.
The stars that shine so bright enhance your beauty too.
Your fields of grain, your stately trees, the flowers upon your breast.

Oh world could anything be more beautiful, in which you are dressed?
Your birds sing so sweetly.
Soft air gives promise of warm summer’s rain.
All nature is planned so completely.
Only God, your designer could create, and sustain.
